The British Army began to arm itself with a new generation of combat vehicles. Yesterday, July 27, the press service of the UK Department of Defense on its official YouTube channel published a video of the arrival of Ares armored personnel carriers at the Household Cavalry Regiment in Bulford.
The Ares armored personnel carrier is one of six vehicles of the Ajax family, formerly known as the SV. Ares is positioned as an armored personnel carrier for escorting vehicles with special equipment. The family is based on the eponymous combat reconnaissance vehicle Ajax. In addition, the lineup includes the Athena (command vehicle), Argus (engineering reconnaissance vehicle), Apollo (repair vehicle) and Atlas (recovery vehicle).

Under the contract with General Dynamics UK, the British Army plans to receive 589 Ajax vehicles. The new armored personnel carriers are a unified replacement for the CVR (T) armored vehicle family. British vehicles of the Ajax family were developed on the basis of the Spanish-Austrian BMP ASCOD, on the creation of which specialists from the Spanish company Empresa National Santa Barbara S. A. and the Austrian Steyr-Daimler-Puch Spezialfahrzeug AG & Co AG worked since 1988.
