The United States and Australia are in dialogue on the possibility of creating an Australian hypersonic weapon, said US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper.
"We had a discussion of a very wide range of issues regarding the US potential and the potential of Australia. And our desire to promote it (the potential of Australia - approx. LOOK), whether it be [in the field of] hypersonic [weapons] or any other types of means," the head of the Pentagon TASS.
He explained that the US is "deterring bad behavior" in the Indian and Pacific Oceans and protecting international order, and noted that this phrase refers to China.
Earlier, the US President's special envoy for arms control Marshall Billingsley said that the United States is going to aim its hypersonic weapons primarily at the Asia-Pacific region.
The Pentagon also confirmed that during the tests, the speed of the new hypersonic missile, which US President Donald Trump spoke about, exceeded the speed of sound by 17 times.
