Anti-tank missile systems: overview and characteristics

As long as tanks are the main striking force in all types of offensive combat operations, the development of anti-tank warfare will not lose its relevance. One of the main types of these funds, which are becoming most relevant, as shown by the current and recent armed conflicts (in Ukraine, Nagorno-Karabakh, Syria), are anti-tank systems.

An anti-tank missile system (ATGM) is an effective mobile type of weapon designed to destroy armored vehicles, fortifications, manpower and other protected objects with an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM).

Currently, the following generations of ATGM development are distinguished:

1st generation - the operator controls the ATGM flight by wire until it hits the target (ATGM Malyutka, Entak, Mosquito);

2nd generation - after launching the missile, the operator monitors the target and keeps it in sight (crosshair), the rest is done by automation (ATGM Fagot, Competition, Sturm);

3rd generation - with fully automatic guidance systems (on the principle of fire and forget), there is the possibility of operator intervention (ATGM Spike, Javelin, Predator).
