Mentorship in the Kazakhstan Engineering Group of Companies: Knowledge Transfer and Human Capital Development

In an environment of high demands for quality, safety, and work efficiency, a strong mentoring culture ensures a solid connection between generations of employees. It is not just a training process but an effective system of professional growth, where experienced specialists serve as guides for young professionals, helping them master not only technologies and standards but also essential professional and ethical principles.

The Kazakhstan Engineering Group of Companies actively develops the institution of curatorship—a key tool for the professional development of young specialists and the transfer of unique production expertise.

At the Holding’s enterprises, mentors play a crucial role: they pass on not only knowledge and skills but also production traditions, instilling responsibility, discipline, and commitment to high-quality standards in young professionals. At the same time, the mentoring process itself motivates experienced employees toward professional and personal growth, strengthening their expertise in their respective fields.

The mentoring culture is being developed across all enterprises of the Holding. A vivid example of effective curatorship implementation is the experience of JSC "Semey Engineering," where mentorship is an essential part of the adaptation program. Mentors are selected in collaboration with the HR department, and their assignment to young specialists is formalized by an official order. Mentors help newcomers master professional tasks, understand technological processes, and integrate into the corporate environment.

JSC "PZTM" has been successfully using mentorship as a tool for workforce training for many years. The plant actively collaborates with regional educational institutions, and since 2012, it has implemented a dual education system in partnership with the Baiken Ashimov Petropavlovsk College of Mechanical Engineering and Transport. Students undergo industrial training directly at the enterprise, gaining valuable knowledge and experience in real working conditions.

Mentors at PZTM are not just supervisors but true guides into the profession. They help young specialists develop practical skills, a sense of responsibility, and a passion for their chosen field. Many of them are participants and winners of regional and national competitions, demonstrating their high level of professionalism and significant contribution to industry development.

At JSC "S.M. Kirov Plant," mentorship also plays a key role in the workforce training system. As part of the approved methodological guideline "Workforce Training and Skills Development" (MI), employees regularly receive training in industrial professions. Newly hired workers without the necessary qualifications undergo professional and technical training, after which they are assigned qualified mentors.

The mentorship institution within the Kazakhstan Engineering Group of Companies is a strategically important element of the HR policy aimed at the sustainable development of the defense-industrial complex enterprises. At the heart of this system are people—experienced specialists ready to share knowledge, support young professionals, and shape a new generation of highly qualified experts who will determine the future of the industry.
