Ceremonial Launch of the Small Patrol Ship "Semey" in the City of Uralsk

On May 16, 2025, a significant event took place at the premises of Zenit Uralsk Plant JSC — the ceremonial launch of the small patrol ship Semey. The new vessel was built by order of the Border Service of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan and will serve as an important element of the country’s maritime security system.

The ship was named in honor of the city of Semey — one of Kazakhstan’s oldest historical and cultural centers, a symbol of patriotism and devotion to the Motherland. This is the 35th vessel produced by the enterprise and a vivid testament to the professionalism and high standards of Kazakhstan's shipbuilding industry.

"The plant’s team has put in great effort to ensure the high-quality construction of this ship. I am confident that it will become a reliable pillar in safeguarding Kazakhstan’s national security in the Caspian Sea," said the plant’s General Director, Kadrzhan Urakovich Mukanov, in his speech.

Construction of the 70-ton vessel took two years and brought together the efforts of dozens of specialists. Among them, particular recognition goes to welder Yerlan Serikovich Lukpanov and insulation specialist Aigul Kusbaevna Mektepova. Their contributions were a vital part of the overall success.

Semey is equipped with advanced navigation, communication, and control systems. It is capable of reaching speeds of up to 40 knots and can autonomously perform missions for up to seven days.

The vessel is designed for coastal patrol, combating poaching, and rapid response to any incidents in the maritime zone. Its high maneuverability enables swift and effective operations even in challenging conditions.

The launch of this ship marks not only another milestone in the development of Kazakhstan’s shipbuilding industry but also a tangible contribution to strengthening national security. It demonstrates that the domestic industry is capable of producing modern, reliable, and efficient maritime vessels that meet the current challenges of the time.
