Workforce Development and New Technologies: Activities of “Kazakhstan Engineering” R&D Center” LLP

In the era of rapid technological advancement and global competition, the development of national scientific and engineering potential becomes increasingly crucial. At “Kazakhstan Engineering” R&D Center LLP, there is a strong belief that only collaboration between science, education, and industry can provide a powerful impetus to the development of the country’s defense sector. Today, the Center is expanding its horizons — from scientific research to training young specialists.

Among the Center’s partners are educational institutions as well as domestic and international research organizations. In cooperation with them, the Center implements research initiatives and practice-oriented projects in the fields of IT, robotics, sensor technologies, cybersecurity, and unmanned systems.

Supporting Young Talent

One of the key priorities of the R&D Center is the training of a new generation of specialists. A significant role in this direction is played by Kirill Petrochenko, Head of the Training, Testing, and Professional Development Center at “Kazakhstan Engineering” R&D Center LLP. Under his leadership, a systematic approach to developing human resources and forming a modern engineering school has been established. Thanks to his initiatives, new professional development programs are being implemented, agreements with universities are being signed, the range of engineering competencies is expanding, and mentorship practices for young professionals are being introduced.

The Center actively engages with students, offering them opportunities for internships, participation in research projects, and hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies in real-world conditions. In 2024 alone, dozens of students completed internships, many of whom went on to continue their careers at the Center.

“We see that even at the very beginning of our careers, we can contribute to the development of high technologies in defense. That is truly inspiring,” says Alimkhan Torebayev, an intern at the R&D Center and a graduate of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University.

Special attention is also paid to training the next generation of engineers. Universities and colleges serve as platforms for career guidance and practical experience, where students are not just observers but active participants in R&D activities. For example, Center employees underwent advanced training at Ural Federal University (Russia) and established cooperation with the Turkish research institute TUBITAK SAGE — a leader in defense technology development in Turkey. This partnership enables the Center to exchange experience, adapt the best international practices, and implement them in domestic defense projects.

Current Areas of Development

It is worth noting that the Center is currently mastering next-generation professions such as 3D printing operator, multispectral sensor engineer, unmanned platform operator, radiation monitoring specialist, and robotics systems integrator.

The declaration of 2025 as the Year of Technical and Vocational Professions in Kazakhstan has highlighted the importance of technical and applied specialties. In light of global technological changes and strategic priorities, the R&D Center is focusing its activities on the most promising and strategically significant areas. These areas are shaping the future of defense technology and ensuring the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the domestic industry.

Investing in the Country’s Future

All of these efforts are aimed at achieving a significant goal — strengthening Kazakhstan’s scientific and technological sovereignty. Through involvement in R&D, the implementation of international projects, and the development of new professional standards, the Center is laying the foundation for the sustainable and sovereign growth of the nation’s defense industry.
